Screw vs Push

Choosing a backing

Both backings hold the same stud — what differs is how firmly they hold and how quickly they come off.

Screw Back — The post is threaded and the back winds on. It cannot work loose, so it suits studs left in day and night.

Push Back — Slides onto a smooth post and grips by friction. Quicker to fasten, and easier if you change earrings often.

A screw back takes a few seconds longer to fasten. If a piercing has stretched or sits low, it is the safer of the two.
